AJAX, the name
I hate the name AJAX for what they call AJAX. AJAX is such a wrong name for those frameworks.
AJAX is a small part of it and the remaining includes so many things. All these are basically rich client side frameworks and they happen to use XML-HTTP for a small portion of what they do.
By the way, this concept is not new at all. This is there for ages. I worked on rich client application in 1999! We even made it work for Netscape 4.x, can any of these toolkits beat that?
Someone(aka google) just decided to use it now and all of sudden it's a big deal! I bet if it is used by a small company then no one would have even said that it is a great technology. Now, you read about how great it is all over the place. Where is these guys all these years?
This explains a lot about the media here. They are not really giving us the news about the great stuff, they tell us only when something hits big, then it becomes great technology for them.
